Baptism is the first and most important step parents will take in the faith formation of their child.
As parents, you bear the responsibility to teach your child about God by creating a home where tenderness, forgiveness, respect, fidelity, and unselfish service are the rule.
Baptism preparation helps you understand your role as faith teachers. The class consists of reflecting on your own personal faith formation, the responsibilities of raising your child in a Christ-like home, and the Theology of the Sacrament.
Parents requesting baptism must be a registered member of Divine Mercy and attend one preparation class. The class is waived if an older sibling was baptized within the last 2 years.
Classes are held on a Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m at 800 Marquette Ave.
Baptisms are held on the 1st full weekend and 3rd weekend of every month and takes place at the 4:00 p.m. Mass on Saturday and the 7:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Masses on Sunday. Baptisms are not held during Lent.
The child must have one godparent who is fully initiated into the Catholic Church (Baptized, received 1st Eucharist and Confirmation). Dates of when the sacraments were received is required when filling out the sponsor forms.
All needed forms are distributed at the class.
